Announcements for the Week of October 17, 2025

  • ** Deadline extended!** Please click here to complete the pastoral survey. Only NZBC members 18 years or older are eligible to complete the survey. The survey link will expire at 9:00 PM on October 26th. Entries will not be received after this time. Printed copies must be received at the church by October 26th.

  • New Zion Baptist Church is celebrating its 155th Church Anniversary throughout the month of October.  This year’s theme is “The Journey Continues.” Members are asked to give a special donation of $25.

  • New Zion will be at New Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday, October 23rd for a Revival service. The church is located at 3911 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown, VA 23693. Prayer and Praise Service begins at 7:00 PM. The Worship Service begins at 7:15 PM. The Mass Choir, Ada Imani Harp Ministry, the Praise Dancers, and the Ushers will be serving. Please sign up for transportation by Tuesday, October 21st at 5:00 PM.

  • October 2025 Let’s Pray! – We will pray as a church for these three things each day this month:

      1. We will pray for the federal employees who are impacted by the government shutdown; and that congress would work together so that people will go back to work.

      2. We will pray for those who are grieving the passing of someone in their life.

      3. Thank God for leading New Zion Baptist Church. 

  • The Church Business Meeting for the month will be Tuesday, October 28th, at 6:00 PM. We encourage all New Zion members to attend. The meeting is onsite only. To request transportation, please call the church by 5:00 PM, Monday, October 27th.

  • In honor of Trustee Nancy Shackleford, NZBC will host a Praise Party on Saturday, October 18th, 5:00-8:00 PM. There will be food, games, prizes, Trunk or Treat, a costume parade and more. Kids are asked to wear their costumes. No demonic costumes. Donations of candy, apples and small toys are needed. For more information, please contact Rev. Mary Compton or Sis. Isis Jackson.

  • The Men’s Ministry will be having a meeting on Sunday, October 19th immediately following service in the sanctuary. The contact is Deacon Ronald Smalls.

     

  • There will be NO Bible/Book Study on Wednesday, October 22nd. Pastor Christian will be preaching at New Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, VA for their Revival service. Our Bible/Book Study will resume on Wednesday, November 5th. On that evening, we will continue with Week 10: One All-Powerful, Ever-Present Judge, page 77. This session will be held on-site and on Zoom. If you desire to ride the NZBC bus, please call the church by Tuesday, November 4th, at 5:00 PM to reserve your seat.   • The next session for Adult Day Basic Bible Study will be Wednesday, October 29th, at 12:00 PM. Journey with us as we study the Book of Ephesians and as we explore the six Mega Themes.

  • Attention: The deadline for the Pastor Survey has been extended until October 27, 2025. This extension provides all eligible members with additional time to participate and share their perspectives. Who should complete the survey? ALL members who are 18 years of age or older are encouraged to complete the survey. Your participation is essential and ensures that every voice is represented in the pastor search process.   • New Zion has partnered with New Quarter Baptist Church to collect non-perishable food items, and other canned foods to assist those in our community, and FISH. The items can be placed in a large basket in the vestibule.

  • The Medicare Seminar will be on Friday, October 24th, at 11:00 AM onsite. Information on any changes and the options to select appropriate health coverage for your needs will be available. Please attend to see if these changes will affect your coverage. Boxed lunches will be provided. If you are interested in attending this seminar, please sign up on the bulletin board outside of Pastor Whitehead’s office or call the church. Sister Vivian Morgan is the contact.

  •  Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, October 25th. The location will be the New Town Gazebo, 5150 Main Street Williamsburg, VA 23188. Our team will meet at the Gazebo at 9:00 AM. The walk begins at 10:00 AM. To join the NZBC Team, please see the attached flyer, scan the QR code located on the bulletin board outside of the Pastor’s office, or contact Deacon-Elect Linda King.

     

  • CALLING ALL MINISTRIES! The NZBC Trustees will be hosting a church wide cleanout. All ministries are asked to attend and participate in this event to remove any unused items on the property. It will be Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM. The contacts for this event are Trustee Harold Mason and Trustee Diane Druitt. 

  • Operation Christmas Child is now underway. Shoe boxes are available in the vestibule. The deadline to return shoeboxes is November 7th. Our goal for this year is 130 shoeboxes, and 10 boxes have been returned. The point of contact is Sis. Karen Stokes.

  • On Wednesday, October 29th, New Zion will present “Coping with Grief and Loss”. The presentation begins at 7:30 PM in the J. H. Moody Fellowship Hall. The guest speaker will be Rev. Reese Washington. This is an on-site and Zoom presentation. Please sign up on the bulletin board outside of Pastor Whitehead’s office. The contact is Dr. Brenda Christian.

  • Scholarship Sponsors Reception - Would you like to become an NZBC Scholarship Sponsor?  Would you like to honor a loved one, establish a family legacy and tradition, or sponsor a scholarship in the name of a discipline or cause that you are passionate about? Join us as we honor our current scholarship sponsors and share info on how you too can become an NZBC Scholarship Sponsor on Thursday, October 30, 2025, 5:00-8:00 PM. Interested members and friends can provide their information on the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board across from Pastor’s office. Deacon Quincy Marrow, Sister Regina Ihsane and any member of the scholarship committee are the contacts.
