August 2025 Let’s Pray! – We will pray as a church for these three things each day this month:
We will pray for our grade school students, college students, and everyone involved in the educational process as this new academic year begins, that they will have a safe, productive, and positive experience.
We will pray for starving people in Gaza that food will reach them.
Thank God for His love for us.
Bible/Book Study will resume on Wednesday, August 20th in Week 7: Prepare to Meet Your God, Amos 4:1-5:17. This session will be held on-site and zoom. If you desire to ride the NZBC bus, please call the church by Tuesday, August 19th at 5:00 PM to reserve your seat. The contact is Dr. Brenda Christian.
The next session for Adult Basic Bible Study will be Wednesday, August 20th, at 12:00 PM. Journey with us as we dive into the 7 “Ds” of Deception: Learning to discern in a culture of Deception.
Join the Youth Church Team! Are you passionate about sharing the Good News with our youth and helping them grow in the Lord? If so, Youth Church is the perfect place for you! If you’re interested in volunteering, please reach out to Rev. Monica Whitehead or Sis. Sonya Smalls. Volunteers must be members of New Zion for at least one year and must complete a background check. We look forward to serving with you soon!
New Zion has partnered with New Quarter Baptist Church to collect non-perishable food items, and other canned foods to assist those in our community, and FISH. The items can be placed in a large basket in the vestibule.
IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN! New Zion is collecting school supplies. You may place your donations in the bin located at the Administration Entrance. If you are making a monetary donation, please use a church envelope, and the Treasurer will inform Dr. Christian of the donation. In addition, there will be a Back to School Event at Lafayette High School sponsored by Real People Educating Others and the 757 Giveback Committee. There will be school supplies, gifts, free food, games, music, and entertainment. The date is Saturday, August 23rd from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
SAVE THE DATE! We will celebrate Pastor Robert A. Whitehead, Sr. and First Lady, Dr. Jocelyn Whitehead’s retirement and Pastor Whitehead’s birthday on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Formal invitation for NZBC Members will be available starting September 7, 2025.
As we are preparing for Pastor Whitehead’s retirement, the Pastors Aid Ministry is asking members of New Zion to video a one-minute appreciation message to Pastor Whitehead and Dr. Jocelyn. They are asking for one video per family. If you need assistance with recording your video, Rev. Brandon can assist you after service on the second Sunday in September, and the fourth Sunday in September in the fellowship hall. There is a sign-up sheet on the board in the hall if you want assistance. Thank you in advance as we honor our Pastor and First Lady.
PLEASE DONATE! New Zion will still be collecting plastic bags to assist James Blaine Blayton Elementary School with the Trex challenge. If they collect 1,000 pounds of plastic in three hundred and sixty-five days, the school will receive a composite bench. Donations can be dropped off and placed inside the white recycling bin in the vestibule. The contacts are Brother Ernest and Sister Tina Information for the Week of August 15, 2025.
